Premier Zhou

As an ordinary person, he was very kind, hard-working, and patriotic.

He was friendly to everyone, and cared for others a lot; he studied hard when he was a child, the reason he went to school was: “study for rising abruptly of China.” That influenced us a lot today. He was an excellent student, who never did the work today in tomorrow. Once he was delay the exercise of 200 words, though he was very tired and it was the midnight, he didn’t go to bed until he finished it satisfying. From the tiny things, we can learn a lot and we could see how great he was, what he said and done were different from most of us. Maybe that is the reason he could be a great person later, instead of a general one, like us. Born in a special age, he had strongly patriotic passion. He studied for the rise of China, and struggled for the nation all of his life.

As a great premier, he was also hard-working and considerate, although the nature had some differences.

He spent all his life for the freedom and independence of Chinese. He explored the way of Chinese Communist day and night. He always lived with the masses, and considered for them. The story of “pay the bill 3 times” was a beautiful one. When he eating with subordinates, he refused the public expense, and paid the bill 3 times, avoided them spent their own money. As a respectable person, Premier Zhou also was a great diplomat. He had been to Europe for study and he was wild about the exploration of socialism. During the time he staying in

Europe, he propagandized Marxism in the Chinese here. After he became premier, he has been preserving the dignity of China at all times. Whenever he met conundrums from others, he invariably could respond ingeniously. Once a foreigner said to him: “Why Chinese always lower their heads when walking when we raising our heads?” Premier Zhou responded: “I see, that was because someone who was uphill would lower their heads, and someone who was downhill always raising their heads.” From the tiny things we can see how wise he was. At any occasion he could respond appropriately. Another time, after shaking hands with him, an unfriendly foreigner took out a paper and wiped his hand, then put it in his pocket. Seeing this, Premier Zhou also took out a piece of paper, wiping his hand and throwing it into trash can. He protected ours dignity effectually.

No mater he was a normal person or a premier, he was a splendid man. Actually, his excellence and passion made him success, and be a premier out of an ordinary person. Maybe, a man like he was, had been destined that he would not be an ordinary man. His achievements depended on his characters and aptitude.

Enlai Zhou, whose old home was in Shaoxing, Zejiang, was born in Huaian of Jiangsu province on Match 5th of 18, when it was the late Qing dynasty. Huaian is a nice place, its economy was prosperous and its culture advanced. Also, it was the former residence of the writer Chengen Wu, and there has a memorial temple of Tianpei Guan, a hero in Opium War. He loved the beautiful of our country, and he had taken pride in our nation. When he was young, he had enlightened his patriotism from some articles.

Enlai Zhou had two mothers, one was giving him life, and another was rearing him, who was his aunt, because his had no child. Both of them had great influence on him. He gained knowledge from his mother, which cultivated his abundant sentiment. From the pomes of peasants and workers around him he learned the hardships of their lives.

When he was ten years old, both of his two mothers were died, and his father was making living outside, so he had to support the family and took care of the two younger brothers. He had to borrow money from the wealthy, or pawned something of home.

He was educated by the difficulties of his family and the country.

In the spring of 1910, he began to study in school, at the age of twelve, he said: “study for rising abruptly of China.” which inspired us all the time. And the pledge accompanied his whole life, permeated in his every activity.

Later in 1913, he got in Nankai School, where he studied 4years. He gained knowledge of all sides, which influenced his whole life. The summer in 1917, he graduated from Nankai School, and went to study in Japan. At that time, Japan developed into imperialism from capitalism after reformation, and there was a long distance between rich and poor. Seeing this, he gave up the imperialism to save China, and sank into anguish. Then, the new about the revolution of socialism in Russia came, which inspired him and then he began to expose the Marxism, and his thought changed. Then he backed to China in 1919, to seek other outlet. Then he threw himself into the Movement on May 4th, and he was active in the demonstrations. He have had demonstrated twice at the gate of the president’ home to support the patriotic fight. Then the Student’s Movement had been suppressed and Enlai Zhou and his companies had been put into the prison. But they didn’t give up, and Zhou began to disseminate the Marxism in his friends, teaching in the prison. The 6 months’ life in the prison had firmed his belief of socialism. The revolution came into his mind.

The September of 1920, he went to France to learn the experience of the revolutions in Europe. At the early days in France, he was puzzled to adopt the violence in Russia, or the reformation in England. He went to London in the January of 1921, seeing the economic crisis after the World War I, workers were exploited by the capitalists, which gave him a deep feeing about war. In February, he back to France, analyzing all ideological trends, and then decided to the socialism. Then he joined the Communism Group in Paris, beginning his life-long communism ideological. He found Communism Organization of Youth in Europe with the Chinese here to start their communism cause. Then, Enlai Zhou was responsible for publicity in the Communist Party of Chinese Youth in Europe, which was founded in the June of 1922.

During the 4 years in Europe, he had enriched his knowledge and experience. Besides, it was a base to his leading career in the Nation’ Revolutionary.

In the July of 1924, he back to China, and held the post of director of Political Apartment in Huangpu Military School. Then, he began his political career inland. He perfected the political system, setting up the orders in the daily life, drafting plans of education, formulating policies. He had solved a series of troubles in setting revolutionary military. In the 1925, he leaded the War to East, and the military disciplines were rigorous. He had got the practical experience in military. In 1928, he was elected as in the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, becoming a key person in the Party. During the construction of the Chinese Communist Party, he was working hard, and put the CCP at the first place.

On the October 1st 1949, he was appointed to the first premier of China, beginning his 26 years’ painstaking life.

He was a Chinese, a great person. On the January 8th of 1976, he was die, the United Nations lower half flag for him, which made some other countries thought it was unfair. When he query came to the UN, pointing out that when their chief executives were died, the flag was hang so high, but the premier of china was dead, the UN lower half flag for him. At this time, the Secretary-general of the UN standing out and had a short speech, he said:“There have two reasons of lower half flag for the death of Enlai Zhou. The first one is that China has long history and culture, she has so many treasures that we cannot count, and her money is countless, but her Premier Zhou has no deposit; the other reason is that China has

a billion populaces, which is one forth of the whole world, but her Premier Zhou has no any child. Any chief executives of yours can achieve any one of them, headquarters would lower half flag for him on the day dead.” After finished this, he turned around and went away. The words of the Secretary-general reflected the nobility of our Premier Zhou was unmatched.

That is Enlai Zhou, our great premier. He was a splendid person of our nation, of the whole world.
